I'm Really Ticked Off

There is nothing that I can't stand more than a thief. Well, that might be a little dramatic. I mean, there are worse things than that. But, a thief really ticks me off!

Let me just tell you what happened....

We've just experienced the most beautiful wedding. As part of the floral decorations, we used ferns. These ferns were full and beautiful and huge. After the wedding, I used a couple here at home and took the rest to the beach. I hung three on the front porch and one on the back porch. Hanging ferns on your porch just adds something special. It makes it look all southern and such.

Well, when I went to the beach yesterday, I didn't notice it at first. I had walked over to my neighbors house to see her new porch. We were talking about the wedding and I told her that the ferns were from the wedding. I pointed to the back porch to show her the one there and, AND.....OMG, where is my fern? Y'all, it was gone! Nothing left but the chain it was hanging on.

You know how when you experience something traumatic and every thought in the universe runs through your mind in 3.2 seconds flat? Yeah, well...that's what was happening to me. I may have felt faint and nauseous, but I couldn't let my neighbor see my shortcomings. So, I just said.....something like, "Who would take my fern? All I know is they better be asking for forgiveness." But what I really wanted to say was, "I can't believe someone would steal my fern! I hope they get caught and their hands fall off. I hope the fern dies. If they wanted it so bad, they could have asked and I would have given it to them....don't just up and steal my fern!"

So, I looked all around the house wondering if maybe the wind blew it down....and...nothing. I questioned the neighborhood, asking if they had seen anyone take it. And no one had. Pam remembers seeing it on Sunday. So sometime between Sunday and Wednesday....a THIEF came on my porch and stole my fern! And I am still mad!

I kind of have an idea who might have done it. And I guess before I start wishing things fall off on the man, I should really hope he asks forgiveness....like I said originally. For now, I'm going to breathe deeply and try to get over it. Lord knows, I hope no more go missing. I don't want to spontaneously combust.

Laurie

  1. I'd be fuming about that too, Laurie. Unbelievable. I just can't imagine how anyone could do that, let alone justify it to themselves. Argghhhh! Hope his/her conscience gets ahold of him/her. blessings ~ tanna

  2. That's the thing Tanna, I don't see how anyone with a conscience could justify stealing. Let's just hope they do have a tiny bit left. Thanks for stopping by. Have a good weekend!

  3. I hate it when my faith in mankind is shaken....and somebody in your space that isn't invited can be scary! I would walk the neighborhood and see if it's hanging out anywhere. Anyone bold enough to steal it might not have any qualms about hanging it in their yard!

    1. I thought about it, but couldn't prove it was mine.

  4. Oh- I hate that for you. I think it is the feeling of being violated that is the worst. My daughter's house was broken into--they came over a high fence in the back--and took all her jewelry. She had worked at a jewelry store so had some great pieces. The worst thing was they took her grandmother's white gold graduation watch and her husband had a Rolex (from his father's estate-the ONLY thing he had of his Dads...and he never wore it for fear of something happening to it)...and like my daughter said- it was not so much the loss of all that as it was the feeling of being vulnerable and violated.

You know what goes around comes around and that person's loss someday will be much greater as a "pay back"...I am a firm believer in that! xo Daina

    1. Exactly! It's that feeling of being violated. And I also believe in what goes around comes around. Have a good weekend!

  5. Yes, that is indeed a sinking feeling to realize there are people in your close proximity that would be so lacking in morals as to out-and-out steal like that.

Years ago, my mom's office building had two cement pots on either side of the front door filled with blooming plants. One morning one of the pots (CEMENT, no less!) was missing. Later that summer she saw the pot with flowers (unmistakably the same one) outside a house several miles from the office building. To have the nerve to display it in the same town after having stolen it . . . such acts destroy your faith in man.

Do you believe in karma? I do. :o)

  6. I just hate the feeling of having someone violate me or my belongings. Fortunately, it is just stuff, but it is just so maddening.

  7. Laurie, that is just horrible! Oh, I just can't believe how anyone could just walk up and take your fern! Hope you find out who it was that did this! I know it's a plant and it could have been worse, but still, the nerve!!

  8. Wow...that's awful! And doesn't it feel creepy that someone came up on your porch like that? Probably at night so they couldn't be seen? Did you look around to make sure nothing else was missing? I mean..a fern? They aren't that expensive. What next? Your patio furniture? Geesh!
