Murrells Inlet Moonlight Paddle

Thursday night was a full moon and the tide was right for a moonlit paddle.

From the left.....Cliff, me and the Yakkity Yakers.

We joined our friend Frank and the Yakkity Yakers, a local kayaking group, at Morse Landing in Murrells Inlet around 6:30 pm to paddle across the creek to the backside of Garden City Beach.

It took us about 30 minutes to paddle over to Garden City and then we beached the kayaks to walk around the point to the ocean side.

Walking around, we saw the moon rising just above the horizon and the sea oats.

Gorgeous!

Once we arrived to the beach side, we watched the moon continue to rise and finally cast a glow on the ocean. It was one of the most peaceful experiences I've had.

And then it was time to return to Morse Landing. We paddled back with the tide,
which took less time than the paddle over. Kayaking after dark with the full moon illuminating the way is something I want to experience again and again.

Talk Soon,
Laurie

**Sorry for the graininess of the photos. They were taken with my cell phone, except the group photo. It was taken with Frank's camera.

A Foggy Seaside Sunday

Yesterday, it was rainy and foggy. I didn't use that as an excuse, however, to just sit inside. There is just so much beauty along this coast of ours. I am happy to share it with you. Whether you live near enough to experience the ocean and seaside communities for yourself or if you live far, far away....these were taken with you in mind. If you are familiar with coastal towns, then you know that as soon as you leave one, you enter another. The coast from a small seaside town called Pawleys Island to Myrtle Beach covers all of about 15 miles. When I took the first photo here in Myrtle Beach it had just stopped raining. Next, I drove south to Pawleys Island and worked my way back north. By the time I finished in Garden City....the fog had really set in. I hope you enjoy my view of the seaside...through the lens of a camera.

So here we began in Myrtle Beach, SC

Pawleys Island fokelore tells of a Gray Man that appears before storms to warn residents of impending storms or danger. What do you think? I honestly could not tell what this was when I took the picture.

I love the way the colors of this boat stand out against the foggy background.

And here back at the same path as we began, you can see that the fog has rolled in.

Have a great Sunday!

Kayking Seaside

Myrtle Beach State Park Pier
(Just for the sheer beauty of it)

As promised, I'm sharing some of the photos from a kayaking trip my husband and I took a while ago. The setting....Murrells Inlet, SC. We left at low tide from Oyster Landing near Huntington Beach State Park and headed to the jetties where the creek empties at the inlet into the sea. To me, nothing is more calming and peaceful than kayaking. You are so up close and personal with nature that it's almost spiritual. Maybe that's what Jacques Cousteau felt when he said "The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever".   Please enjoy.

You can see the exposed sandbar at low tide near the jetties.
This view is looking back towards Murrells Inlet.

In the foreground you see the rocks that form the jetty.
This is the opening of the creek into the ocean.

This is a view from the end of the jetty looking back
towards Huntington Beach State Park.

The jetties (on one side) has an asphalt top allowing you to walk to the end.
The ocean is rough at times and splashes angrily into the jetties making great splashes.

And here is the end.
Notice the buoy marking the entrance through the inlet into the creek.

Leaving for home. As you will notice, the tide had started to rise. The sandbar is nearly covered. Riding the tide in makes for an easy paddle.

I sure hope you all get to experience kayaking at least once. I love it! As the weather warms, I'm sure we will have more and more paddling adventures to share. And as promised, check back Sunday for all new and fresh pictures in Seaside Sunday.

Paddling on,
Laurie
