How Are Those Goals Coming Along?

Well, the first quarter of the year has come and gone.

That didn't take long.

So right about now, I think it's time for a little goal assessment or reassessment, as the case may be. To read more about my 2013 goals click (here).

As you are probably aware, half of my 2013 goals centered around health...as in exercise. I started the year off with an IT Band injury, but have since gotten over that. I am back to running, oh praise be!

So, let's check the list and see how I'm doing otherwise.....comments (in blue) will follow the goals below.
  • Begin a swimming regimen  (Swam a few times. I will continue to work on it, but have to say...it is not my favorite activity.)
  • Learn to speak Spanish, fluently and maybe French  (Not yet.)
  • Continue to lose weight  (Ahem, can we say hard!!! However, I have lost approx 2 lbs. since starting back running. I'm in menopause, y'all. Weight loss won't be easy nor fast, if done healthily.)
  • Run a few 10Ks  (I have run one 10K and have another scheduled for the end of May.)
  • Run a half marathon  (I will begin training probably in August for my first half-marathon....I want my first half to be at the same venue as my first 5K and that is the Georgetown Bridge to Bridge. This is a beautiful course, but it will have 3 bridges. Yikes! Gotta lot of work ahead.)
  • Begin working on my scrapbooks again  (Not yet. What am I waiting on? Heck if I know. With thousands of pictures to go through, it can be daunting. I used to be a Creative Memories consultant. I need to take my own advice and take one batch at a time, work backwards so at least the resent pictures are currently preserved in an album with journaling done.)
  • Continue to research my family history  (Ongoing, however, a bit slow at present. I'm still fixated on finding my great-grandfather's death certificate, which continues to elude me.)
  • Finish my first quilt completely by hand (I have actually made several quilts with a sewing machine....just haven't finished the one I'm making by hand, yet.)  (I have not even picked it up. I did, however, work on knitting a prayer shawl this winter. It's not quite finished, either.)
So, I guess it's time to reassess, tweak and add to the 2013 goals. My goals do change from time to time and I will be adding to them, from time to time. It keeps me on my toes and from getting bored. Heaven help, should I get bored. All sorts of things start happening. Cliff's response to my calls of, "Hey, I've got a good idea"!,........... "Oh, Geez"!  Ha!

The Tweaked Goal List:
  • Continue to Work on Swimming
  • Learn Spanish and maybe French
  • Continue to lose Weight and get as Healthy as possible
  • Continue to work on Running Goals....a couple more 10K's and that glorious Half-Marathon in October and possibly a second one towards the end of the year.
  • Work on Scrapbooks
  • Work on Family History
  • Finish Quilt and Prayer Shawl
  • New! Goal: Home Improvement projects.... 1) New upstairs bedroom windows (energy efficient)  2) New covers for foundation vents  3) Replace front porch column  4) Paint garage  5) Revamp front flower bed, raising it and adding stone walls.  5) Replace carpet and kitchen floors at beach.  6) Make new curtains for beach.
  • Learn to make (healthy) homemade bread
This should keep me busy for awhile. I  better go. I need to call the carpenter.

How are your goals for 2013 going? Is it time for you to reassess? Go ahead, take the time. Look over them, get yourself on track. You'll feel so much better.

Oh wait, in case you were wondering:

First quarter miles run.....140.05
Grins from my running accomplishments.......multitudes

Later,
Laurie

    1. I'm so sorry! It is in the 70's here today. Lovely outside. I hung two ferns yesterday. And went back for geraniums and they were sold out. Hope you get some gardening weather soon!

  6. Hi Laurie, You are doing good on your goals for 2013. And, you made so many goals too. Congrats on the running and getting so fit. That is remarkable. I am doing good on my routines this year. Lifting weights and lots of walking. Our weather has been pretty nice so getting outside has been easy. Doing lots of gardening too.
Best wishes for keeping on track. You are amazing.
Thank you for stopping by and your kind comment.
    Hugs, Celestina Marie

  7. Well, my dear, I would say you are pretty darn focused! I have to commment on one thing you wrote. "Kayaking is one of my many passions. Kayaking is more than a boat ride....it's an all-out, alligator fretting, thunder and lightening, monster waving adventure!"
Alligator fretting???????? That was my main argument to my husband as to why I did not... DID NOT!... want to move to South Carolina! LOL Yes, I have gotten over the fear/thought but I found it so funny that you wrote that. Just affirming that I wasn't as crazy as I thought I was! Keep up with posting your adventures... I'm here cheering you on!

    1. You are certainly not crazy. SC has gators and plenty of them. Just don't go wading around the edges of ponds and stay out of creeks. We kayak in the rivers sometimes and have kayaked down some of the larger creeks that come off the river. That's where we see them. There was one time that we had to kayak over the top of where a gator went under. Scary!! I never paddled so hard in my life. I've never heard of a gator attacking a kayak, but I'll certainly respect their presence. You'll quickly learn where it's safe to go and where not to go. You will love SC, I promise.

  8. I am with you with the weight loss. I'm also in menopause, and it's frustrating how slow it is (if anything happens at all). I am finally back to regular exercise since my injured knee did prevent this for the most part of the first quarter. It IS hard.
You have a lot of goals - great goals, actually. Just take it one step at a time - and don't forget to reward yourself in between, to keep you going.

  9. Hi Laurie!
Thanks for stopping my by blog! That's quite a list you've got there...I'd like to learn to speak French one day, as I would also like to visit France. I need to get over my fear of flying before that though! :-)
    Have a lovely day!

    1. I would also like to go to France. I'm not afraid to fly, I guess you can say I don't like to fly. I just don't like the cramped space..... as I'm a little bit claustrophobic. The thought of sitting in one small space for a long time is enough to make me geechy, as my husband calls it. I can't sit still!

  10. Thanks for visiting my Laura Ashley garden wear post and commenting.
You are so organized to have your list of goals written down, mine is in my head. The one big thing that I'd been wanting to do was join a garden tour guide friend on one of her overseas tours.
Next June, I'll be going to Ireland (from my bucket list) on her tour - big happy dance!

  12. I love swimming for staying fit and healthy, but my long hair is a deterrent. I try to swim twice a week, but lately it seems like only once a week.

Es dificil aprender Espanol si no tiene oportunidades practicar. Yo fui a Mexico por dos semanas. Yo vivi con una familia y fui a una escuela de lenguaje. It is difficult to learn Spanish if you don't have opportunities to practice. I went to Mexico for two weeks and lived with a family and went to a language school.

I am looking at the rest of your list and you put on some pretty big ticket items.

    GOOD LUCK!
