Our Sweet Girl

Lidia as Cleopatra..............Sawyer as a Greaser

Let me just tell you that Cliff and I have been blessed beyond measure with the sweetest grandchildren. Lidia and Sawyer are the best natured children you'll ever see and they are best friends. They look out for each other and want to spend their time with each other. That's rare and it really warms my heart.  I love them!

A Lidia Selfie

But, in this season of Thanksgiving, I have to brag on Lidia just a little bit. It dawned on me this morning as I was serving them breakfast. She NEVER fails to thank me for food that I make for her, whether I've cooked a full five-course meal or just a piece of toast. And, she NEVER fails to say Grace. I love her!

We are a blessed LaLa and Papi!

Hunters and Homemakers

 Lidia

 Sawyer

It all started when Cliff's daddy was a little boy. Hunting was a way of life in those days. Mr. Clifford's father carried him hunting for ducks and squirrels. This tradition was passed down to Cliff as the only boy in his family.  Mr. Clifford had always told Cliff that he wanted him to have his guns and when he passed away, Cliff inherited them.  It was something they shared as father and son.

Years later, Cliff is now passing down the knowledge and traditions he learned as a boy, from his father, to our grandchildren.

Cliff and I believe in teaching Lidia and Sawyer useful skills that they can carry into their adulthood. I've taught Lidia how to sew, knit and cross stitch. She's been learning how to cook, also. She will make a great homemaker, one day, if she so chooses. Cliff has been teaching them how to start a fire and cook outdoors, in their camp in the woods. He has been teaching them to fish. And just last weekend, he taught Sawyer and Lidia how to handle and shoot a 410 Shotgun, for the first time. He even saved the shotgun shell and wrote a little note on it saying that it was their first time shooting the 410. He has a treasure box for each of them with things he's saving and the shotgun shell will be saved there. The 410 shotgun, pictured above, was Cliff's first gun. He received it when he was a little boy...just 8 or 9 years old and has made many, many memories hunting with his daddy and using this gun. Hunting for Sawyer is only a season away. I'm not sure that Lidia will find it appealing, but shooting at targets is fun for her.

Teaching Lidia and Sawyer the right way to handle guns in order to hunt for food is a time honored tradition in this family. Passing down memories, those time honored traditions and family treasures....the guns in this case, is a part of our family heritage. The memories live on!

Old Friends

I was unpacking some things and came across this picture.  Just some young girls from SC?
Well, actually, no. There's always a story to tell; on closer inspection....

These girls went through school together.

Kirby, on the left, helped her mama with the floral decorations for Emily's wedding.
Whitney, in the middle, and Kirby are cousins.

Whitney and my Whitney still keep in touch.

Kirby had a baby a little while ago.

Whitney, in the middle, is expecting a baby now.

My Whitney refuses to give me a grandchild!

  LOL!!

I have an overpowering emotion of love and happiness with the two grandchildren I have….
One or two more would be nice. Just sayin' !!!

 I'm not above using guilt......
