A Quick 'Hey Y'all'

Just wanted to drop in and say, hey y'all. Hope you all had a great and safe Memorial Day. We spent it at the beach. And great day.....it was wall to wall people and motorcycles and people. Lovely weather, though.

Cliff, Lidia and Sawyer ran a race at Brookgreen Gardens Sunday evening. Sawyer was coming in second place....until his race route was mistakenly merged with the 5K runners. He was dissappointed that he got included with the 5K finishers and didn't get his second place finish. Bless it!

I would love to stay and chat a while, but posting from my iPhone is a challenge. My computer is having issues. Ugh! And I had some pretty garden and flower pictures to show you, too. Oh well, I'll save them for another day. The computer is on it's way to the tech, tomorrow.

Oh yeah, this is the week that I go back for repeated blood work. I'll let y'all know, when I get the results. The weight is coming off super slow now, but I am down 21 lbs.

A Seagull And The Sea

 

Saturday was just a typical seaside January day. Beautiful.

Seaside Sunday

It was absolutely a gorgeous day on the beach, today. There were only a few small puffy clouds overhead and there was a wonderful breeze blowing in off the ocean. The summer crowd is starting to roll in. Lakewood is not full yet, but as more and more schools are starting summer break, it won't take long. Normally, I wait until late afternoon to go out on the beach...mostly because of the heat and during the peak summer months you will be hard pressed to find a spot on the beach to call our own. And then if it's high tide, you might as well lay out in the sand dunes. Although, I wouldn't recommend that. You might find yourself spending a little time in the pokie. Anyway, since it was so nice and I've been craving some beach time, I took my chances. Well, it was high tide, but the crowd is not here yet so I found a little spot in the sand and it was awesome. Here are some photos I took with my phone. Thought you might like to see a little Seaside this Sunday.....

As you can see, there are still bare spots in the sand.

I predict in another couple of weeks, there will be wall to wall chairs and umbrellas.

The tide was high midday. It always pushes the crowd back near the sand dunes.

The water is still a little too cool to go swimming, at least for me.

But there are a few brave souls out there.

Seaside Sunday

 

I ran at the beach today. It was a beautiful day....the weather was just right. The temps reached the 60's. This was my view halfway through. And then, when I turned toward home.....

 

I saw these clouds and thought they looked like a big heart.

Little Chiggers

 

My little chiggers came to visit us at the beach this weekend. It was wonderful. I got lots of forehead kisses, cheek kisses, neck squeezes, waist huggies and lap snuggles.

The weather was nice which meant there would be tons of stuff to do. But, we were relegated to two of their favorites.....rock climbing and swimming (indoor pool, of course). Their imaginations were stoked and running wild. With sticks in hand, they journeyed to the nether depths of LaLa land. In situations like these, I rely on the old adage that a picture is worth a thousand words.

So, here you go. Lots of visuals and you don't have to hear me ramble on and on. There are a few pictures and a couple of videos from their visit at Christmas that I never got around to posting, also.

Sawyer lost another tooth at Christmas.

I told him that he could be the poster child for the song....

"All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth."

Yep, seems to work just fine...and comes with warnings. Ha!

 

Camp provisions over Christmas break...Sweet tea, Squirrel-grilled over open fire,

a little salt and bubble gum. What more could you want?

 

Sawyer FaceTimed me from his iPod last week and this is all I saw. HaHa!

 

 

Beach time this weekend.

Sawyer would give the rest of his teeth to be able to climb these sand dunes.

(Strictly prohibited by Lakewood authorities....and for good reason. We need to preserve the sea oats.)

 

So, he settled for the rocks instead. Here, his stick is actually a video camera and Lidia is giving instructions as to how or what to video as the tide rises.

 

"Gosh, do we have to pose, LaLa? We have business to get to."

A Tranquil Tuesday

The land of superlatives....that's what the beach is to me.

And today, I wish for your Tuesday to be as tranquil as mine.

Kayaking the Inlet

Cliff and I went kayaking last Wednesday. Usually, some sort of  adventure/horror story comes out of our kayaking trips, but this time was quiet and serene.  We almost thought that someone had found Drunken Jack's treasure, though, from the hords of people that were at the landing. But on closer inspection, they were just digging for clams and gathering oysters. We left at dead low tide and paddled to the jettys.

Are you confused yet? We didn't leave from this landing, just wanted to show you what it looks like at low tide. We left from Oyster Landing, which even at low tide is plenty deep enough to kayak in.

I wanted to paddle around the tip of the beach to where the jettys begin to empty into the ocean, but it was a little too rough. So, we settled for pulling the kayaks ashore on the creek side.

These were the only treasures I found. I get so danged excited when I find a piece of beach glass and conch shells.

But dear gussy, I couldn't have been more excited to see this little guy. He did the happy dance for me. See!!

 

As we headed back to the landing, the tides had changed making it easier to paddle. I was able to stop paddling for a few minutes to take the following pictures.

Disclaimer: These photos were taken with my cell phone. One of these days, I'm going to take my real camera with me. But, considering the fact that someone usually flips their boat on our trips, it might be a while before I get that brave.

I wish you all could go with me. Kayaking, by far, is one of my favorite things to do.....even more than running.
