Weekend at the Lake

It was a beautiful, sunny, warm weekend at the lake.

Lidia and Sawyer came over Saturday and spent the weekend with us. Let me break it down for you........

Fun and stuff:

Lidia and Sawyer jumped on the Pogo Stick all weekend long.

 Sawyer's concentration face.

 Lidia's concentration face.

It sounded like a slow motion jack hammer outside for two whole days. HaHa!

I know one thing, they must have burned 365,987 calories this weekend.

Blooms and stuff:

 Viburnum, also known as Hobblebush.

Thorn on the Callery pear tree.

Baby peaches.....they look funny right now, but will fill out soon. The tree is loaded.

The Peony. I had been looking for it for awhile and was beginning to think the cold had killed it. I was thrilled when I spotted it today. I'll be watching and waiting for her to bloom.

Projects and stuff:

Cliff started building a grape arbor. He placed the posts in concrete this weekend.
When he attaches wire to the top of the arbor, he'll have to train the grapevine to cover it.

Hope you had a nice weekend,

Laurie

  1. I love that one of my childhood favorites is still around...and that your grandkids love them as much as I did. Beautiful photos, as always, Laurie. I love peonies too, but can't grow them here. Was THRILLED beyond belief to see them in the display at the Bellagio a few weeks back...yellow ones?! I always had the deep pink ones. Happy start to a fresh week. XOXO

    1. You liked the pogo stick? Yeah girl, they jumped until their faces turned red. Yellow Peonies? I bet they were gorgeous! Happy new week to you as well! Oh wait, how much snow, if any, did your folks get?

  2. What adorable kiddos! I could use a few hours on a pogo stick to burn calories! All babies are cute, even peachy ones! My peonies are just popping out of the ground..no blooms around here until after Memorial day. I'll have to enjoy yours! The grape arbor reminds me of the one we had when I was growing up...I loved sitting under it and of course the grapes were yummy!

  3. That's a far cry from the Colorado weather. :) I lived on a pogo stick when I was 12. Fun times. Looks like a great weekend.

  5. Our weekend was lovely and warm, too. Not your kind of warm, but warm for us! Jumping, as on a rebounder or trampoline, is supposed to be very good for one's lymph system. The kids should have lymph that is flowing smoothly and in good shape after their weekend!

We had a grape arbor when I was growing up. The only canning or preserving my mom did was to make grape jam . . . and it was soooo good!

  7. Lidia and Sawyer look like they had a blast. They are such beautiful children and appear to be growing up very fast. Time seems to pass at lightning speed and they are grown before we know it. I would have been half dead before I got past the first few Poes and Goes(lol)!Your plants are looking great. That Vibernum is so pretty and is probably smelling very nice too. I love my Peonies too and, talk about fragrant, they really are that! That grape arbor is going to be wonderful! Sorry I haven't been by here lately or posted anything on my own blog. I tried to work in my little raised beds a couple of times but wicked old Scoliosis left me nursing my back and feeling miserable. I have dealt with it since my teens but it has become much harder to handle now with other complications of being a senior adult. It seems life is a paradox sometimes. Just when we think we are at the point of getting it all together, our bodies start to fall apart! Still, life is full of blessings. I hope you and your family are all well and that the weekend ahead will be beautiful, Laura!

    1. Thank you, Lynn! Gracious, take care of your back. My youngest daughter has mild scoliosis. She is very diligent about exercising to keep it strong and flexible. Hope you feel like getting back outside in your garden soon.

  8. In Portugal we have a lot of grapevines "roofs" in the gardens to provide a nice cool place to seat in the shade. It's a great addition to your garden! And I love peaches! I wait for peaches season the whole year! Lucky you to have a peach tree!

    1. I just bought Cliff another grapevine, ready to be planted this weekend. He wants the vine to grow up and over the arbor he's built. I suggested we hang a swing underneath. We have a direct view to the lake from their. We love peaches too, and consider oueselves lucky to have inherited this peach tree. The peaches are growing so well....can't wait to they fully mature and we can eat them.

    2. Now I'm dreaming about it... swinging under the grapevine arbor, looking at the lake while eating a peach.
