Beautiful Ruins, Chic-Fil-A Cows and Deputy Lizard

Lidia and Sawyer spent this past weekend with us. Cliff still wasn't feeling too well, so entertaining the kids was my job. I'm not as much fun as Cliff. But as it turned out, they really enjoyed hanging out with me.....even though, I don't play in the woods.

Lidia and Sawyer fished from the dock Saturday and Sawyer caught the first fish of the season.....a nice sized bream. He threw it back because no one around here felt like cleaning a fish.

Then it was time to go explore. We drove down back country roads until we saw something we wanted to ponder or take a closer look. There was definitely beauty among the ruins. You just had to pay attention.

I love old barns and abandoned buildings. There is always something beautiful to behold. The following holds true.....

At first, you see the brokenness. And on closer inspection, you begin to see the beautiful details. In this instance....daffodils.

Then there were cows! This little cutie was just standing near the road. Lidia swooned all over him. She really wanted to put him in the car and take him home.

And then, Lidia spotted the Chic-Fil-A cows. Glad we know where they live!

Next, we saw this old car parked in a cow pasture. Something tells me the car was there first.

Before it was over, we ended the weekend with a funeral.

Lidia and Sawyer found a dead lizard and had to give it a proper burial. But before they could bury him, they had to give him a name. Deputy Lizard it was. They searched the yard for just the right spot to bury Deputy Lizard. Of course, they had to make a cross and Sawyer said he needed a headstone, too. So, they buried the Deputy and adorned his grave with a cross, a headstone and flowers.

It's never dull around here!

Laurie

That house looks like it will fall over with a little breeze!

Love the calves....a sure sign of spring!

    1. Doesn't it though? If you look closer, you can see that the left side of the house is breaking away. I love those sweet calves, too. I really want a painting of one hanging over my fireplace. Maybe, I can get a really great shot of one and frame it.

  2. Always fun to explore something abandoned. I remember doing that when I was a child, with my youngest uncle. We would both go on his bike until we found something interesting. As you said, there's always something beautiful.

That old house must have so many memories within it's walls. It's still beautiful to my mind.

  7. So much fun to see the world through children's eyes! I love old abandoned houses and barns, too. Seeing the daffodils blooming makes you know that someone once loved their home. Such little cuties you have there. xx Karen

  8. I can see why they love to visit! I would too! ( except for the fish part!) The old building was so fun because when I saw the daffodils I couldn't help but wonder who planted them and probably how much they were enjoyed before the building was abandoned. Nice cow pics too...very Pioneer Woman of you! Have a good weekend! Hope hubby is feeling better.

    1. I can just sit and look at those old buildings all day long and let my mind wonder what might have gone on, on a typical day. I can almost see the lady planting and enjoying those daffodils, in my minds eye. The kids enjoyed the ride. And yes, hubby is feeling better. Thank you.

    1. I could surely show you some gorgeous ones. Thanks about Deputy. The kids revisited the grave yesterday and showed friends where he was buried. Are they learning about life or what?
