Cardinal Accident

All she knew was the sky that she saw before her. And then, in the blink of an eye.....splat.
Head on, beak first, she flew straight into the glass door. She hit so hard that some of her feathers stuck to the glass.

Her feathers? The dark spots on the left.

She bounced off the glass and landed onto the walkway. I felt so sorry for her.
There was nothing I could do.

She hit so hard that it knocked the poop out of her. Yeah, on the left.
I was afraid to pick her up, so I just watched.

I talked to her and told her to rest for a few minutes before trying to get up.
I told her that her false eyelashes were stunning.

And after awhile, I told her she was looking a little better and asked her to move a little.

She thought about it, ruffled her feathers and then she was gone.

I imagine she has a heck of a headache, though.

That happens here a lot...she was encouraged by your kind words, I am sure!
Well....at least they are at your feeder! Was her boyfriend with her?
    Enjoy your evening...
    Cheers!

  2. Sometimes their recovery from such an accident is remarkable. Glad this gal made it. I think if they don't break their necks, they seem to recover given the chance. If only we humans were as resilient!

  3. So glad she made it! I have moved a few to safety...over nighted a few in a dark box, and a few others hit the glass to hard. Such a joy to see them close up and be able to move on!

  4. Oh, Laurie, I am so glad she recovered! My husband and I love our cardinals, both male and female. I might have been tempted to at least touch those lovely feathers, such a gorgeous creature.

  5. Ouch! I'm glad she was able to fly off and I hope she learned her lesson! I once walked through a sliding screen door and although it wasn't painful, the embarrassment almost made me lose poop too! Ha!

    1. Oh my gosh. I'm sorry you ran into the door, but that was funny. My mother-in-law did that once. She didn't get hurt, either. We laughed at her and that made her as mad as a wet hen. Lol!

    1. Ah, that's so sad. I'm sitting here watching the Cardinals this morning. There are at least 8 of them out there feasting on some seed I left for them. I'm watching one limping slightly and wondering if she is the one that ran into the glass door. At least she has no problem flying. Have a good day, Betsy!

  7. What a great ending! Most of these stories do not end well.

    1. She made it and from the looks of it, not only is she fine, but she and her family have been visiting every day and brought their neighbors...the Finches and Sparrows. And just now, I saw a Blue Jay. I'm in bird heaven.

  10. Poor birdie. We have this happen a lot with our huge windows in Colorado. Some survive and sadly some don't.
