Rain Locked

We're basically stuck in the upstate. The rain that we've been experiencing is wreaking havoc on our state of South Carolina. There are areas at Myrtle Beach that's flooded. Georgetown, the town next door to our town of Andrews, is flooded. Areas of Andrews is flooded. The mid-state is flooded. Friend's homes are flooding. Highways are closed. There was one building in Columbia that collapsed, that I know of. Lawn furniture, garbage cans and other debris is floating down roads. There are downed power lines and snakes to watch out for. We are being told to stay indoors. Don't drive. You will be putting yourself in harms way. And for heavens sake, don't drive through flooded neighborhoods...it causes waves and pushes more water inside homes.

For now, we really are stuck at the lake. There are portions of the interstate that is closed and back roads, too. So we may be here for a couple more days until the water recedes.

At the lake, the water which normally stands pretty much still, is tumultuous.  It's rushing toward the dam. They are releasing water from the dam, as well, and just on the opposite side of the dam from us looks like a waterfall.

To see a little of what's going on here, I've attached this video.

( I hope this video works...our internet is down, so I'm posting from my phone.)

We are safe and so is our property, but we have friends affected by all this water. Please remember our state, our communities and friends in your prayers.

Thank you!
Laurie

  1. Couldn't access the video, but don't worry about that . . . others things are much more important. I'm so glad all is well with you and your properties, but feel so badly for all the others affected by this storm. Seems more and more natural disasters are happening.

  2. Oh Laurie, stay safe! My step Mom was in South Carolina and when she tried to get back home to Georgia today, it required here to come through Columbia. She is a native of South Carolina and she could not imagine that they would ever close the interstate! She had to turn around and it took her 3 hours to get back to Winnsboro. Hey, I am thankful she is safe. Don't know when she will be able to get back, but I have told her to NOT come home until the roads are completely passable!
Take care! Praying for all in this disaster. xx

    1. Thank you, Kay. I'm glad your step-mom is ok. There are a lot that have been caught in the water and had to be rescued. I agree that she should stay put until the roads clear. They have implemented a 6 pm curfew in Columbia. I've seen pictures of the flooding on the interstate and like your step-mom, I would have never believed that amount of flooding could happen.

    1. Thanks, Betsy! It is pretty bad. We are staying put at the lake until it subsides. We couldn't get through Columbia anyway. I never thought there could be such widespread flooding, much less shut down interstates. Mother Nature is a mighty force.

  7. You're in my prayers for sure! We have friends in Columbia and haven't heard yet how they're doing. My #2 son used to live in Greenville and I know I would be frantic if he and his family were still there. Stay safe and hopefully it will end soon. I can't imagine how heartbreaking it is to have so much damage to home and town.

  9. Oh my, that is terrible. The Jersey Shore has taken a beating too. A house fell into the water and the beaches are no cliffs because the beach washed away.

  10. Hi, Laurie! Thanks for visiting over at my blog. It was nice to hear from you and I was happy and relieved to hear that you are all okay. I am getting some years on these bones of mine but, I declare, I have witnessed some things I never thought I would see. I know it has flooded here and there and that there was a bad flood in Augusta(next door to us in Aiken). I think that was before I was born, maybe. But, raining so much and for so long as to cause floods over so much of our state at the same time? I have seen floods in other states and felt so sorry for those poor folks, but right here all around seems unreal. I feel very blessed not to have been like some others who were flooded out or had to evacuate their homes with just whatever they could grab. Some had only the clothes on their backs. Schools here are closed again tomorrow. Roads are just not safe to have school buses loaded with children aboard. I have been praying for everyone and, most especially, for those who are working around the clock to help those affected and trying to ensure everyone is safe. Take care, sweet friend!
