Colorado: Wildflowers In The Rockies - July 26th

Part two of our hike on the Dillon Reservoir Ridge Trail is about wildflowers in the Rockies. They are so pretty! I got a few good shots of them on our hike the other day. They seem to be past their prime, but I wanted to show them to you, anyway. Now, I certainly don't know the names of all of them, so I'll name the ones I can....

Asters

Prairie Rose

I can't find the name of this one. I love it, though.

Alpine Sunflowers with Alpine Avens on the left side.
Penstemon or Larkspur?

 Alpine Yarrow
Mariposa Lily Flower

Golden Asters, I think.

Fireweed, up close.

Thistle

Colorado Columbine

I may need to buy a field guide. I thought it would be easier to identify these flowers. I'll keep searching and update, when I know.

Talk soon,
Laurie

  3. Wildflowers are just as beautiful as cultivated ones, don't you think? We even have a couple of those here in northern Minnesota.

    1. I do think so, Mama Pea. Sometimes I think they're more beautiful when strewn or dotted in meadows. I still haven't been able to identify all of them. I'm going to look for a field guide tomorrow.

    1. Thanks, Lisa! I learned to stay away from the thistles, on our last trip. How on earth can something so pretty hurt so bad. Lol!!

    1. You and me both, Betsy! I have never seen nor heard of them before. And, I only saw just this one on our hike. I'm going to have to go back to see if there's more.

  9. Hi Laurie, the 3rd flower photo is buckwheat turning red. It starts out a creamy color. The 5th looks like lupine to me.
