Weed Killer Update

The proof is in the pudding......

This Weed Killer works!

Environmentally Safe Weed Killer
1 gallon vinegar (I used white)
2 cups Epsom salts
1/4 cup original blue Dawn dish detergent

Mix all ingredients in a garden sprayer. Spray the mixture on weeds in the morning, after the dew has dried, and in 3-4 days the weeds will be completely d.e.a.d.

*Thank you Mama Pea for sharing your recipe with me.*

  2. Wow, it really does work! This isn't my original recipe as I saw it not too long ago on someone else's blog. Wish I could remember where, but I've forgotten. :o( Anybody know who posted it? Please let me know if you know so she/he can be given proper credit.

I think we will be using this more than a little bit this summer season! Thanks for posting the results of the test, Laurie!

  3. Very nice! I think I tried this on some monster thistles one year and it didn't work on them. But they were like a weed/tree combination and nothing worked on them....haha... I may try this on dandelions, though. They are sprouting in my strawberry patch!

    1. I know it will kill clover and grass, but didn't try it on dandelions. Be careful around your strawberries. I still weed my flowerbeds by hand. They aren't that bad. But I wanted to try this around brick/stone borders and the driveway, which is some sort of asphalt (it's not concrete) which has cracks where little weeds and grass pop up. Let me know how it works for you.

  4. My hubby uses straight vinegar with similar results. Good job! The environment says thanks too!

  5. Well thank you..I have used straight vinegar also..but maybe this one is better for plants that might be close?

    1. I've heard from a few people that they use straight vinegar. This is the first time I've tried it and was happy with the results. I was wondering if the Epsom salt was going to kill anything because I know you can add the salt mixed with water to your plants to help green them up. Maybe when mixed with the vinegar, there is some sort of chemical reaction. And, I guess the Dawn helps the mixture stick to the plants.

  8. I will have to try your weed killer on the grass and weeds between my bricks. Why do they like to grow there and inside my plants! Thank you!! Nancy

    1. It's a mystery, Nancy! Lol! Yes, you should try it. It killed the weeds between my pavers, but I thought they might just shrivel up and disappear. So far, that hasn't happened. I'm going to need to just give them a little tug to get rid of them, but hopefully they won't grow back. I guess the experiment continues. Lol!

  9. I just had another thought. I wonder if you gave your cracks and crevices a dose of the spray (maybe once a week?) that would keep the weeds from even starting to grow?

    1. I'm glad I tried the vinegar mixture. I feel better about using it rather than something more harmful.

  12. Laurie, thanks so much for posting this! I have read that some vinegar solutions work on weeds but have never tried it. I will now!
