I Was Wrong

 Remember this?
Remember that I called it a Crabapple Tree a few posts back?

 Well, I was wrong.

When it started blooming, I never thought that it could be a Bradford Pear because of it's shape. It's crown is more conical than round.

And another feature was the thorns on it's branches.
I had never heard nor read that flowering pears had thorns.

Well, apparently they do. But this particular pear is not a Bradford.
Nope, it's called a Callery Pear Tree.....gorgeous blossoms, thorns and all.
It is a relative of the Bradford Pear.

This was taken Easter weekend.
I was so busy that I didn't post any blooms that weekend.

I just don't see how you can get much prettier than this Wisteria...

 ....except maybe the Dogwoods.

I was busy in the garden again, today. I pulled up the last of the grass,
but ran out of newspaper and couldn't finish the second half.
Cliff is stopping by Mama's on the way to work in the morning to pick up more.
I'll be back in business by tomorrow evening.

Happy Day,
Laurie

It is pretty when it blooms but it is considered invasive, it is from Korea or China. You have shown us pretty blossoms!

    1. Wow! I don't know how old our trees are....we've only had our house here at the lake for a couple of years. They have thorns and tiny fruit. I never knew they were considered invasive. We only have 2 trees, but then we keep our lawn mowed so maybe we take care of it's invasiveness that way. Have a great evening, Kay!

    1. Yeah and those suckers will stick you in the head when you are mowing the lawn underneath it's branches. Those things are 2-3 inches long. You could really take an eye out. LOL!

Can't wait to see your blooms!

    1. Thanks, Janey! I first heard about using newspaper like this from a book called "Lasagne Gardening". A very informative book. Lots of good, logical ideas. Hope you have a good weekend, too.

  7. Not much blooming here yet, and last weekend snows have done a number on the magnolias. I'm hoping the lilacs survived! It's sunny and 70de today...hopefully that will continue for awhile! Have a good weekend with those beautiful blooms!

    1. Thanks, Nancy. I sure am glad I finished with the grass. I got a great upper body workout from it. Lol. Cliff brought me more newspaper yesterday, so I'm heading back out later this morning to spread that and the rest of the wood chips. Cross your fingers that this does the trick on the grass and weeds. Have a great weekend!
