Pecan Crackin'

Emily's father-in-law gifted us with a bucket full of pecans last week. Can you even imagine how excited I was? Fresh pecans.....yum! But then that means I would have to crack them.
No problem, it will totally be worth it.

Years ago, Cliff's daddy had 3 or 4 pecan trees and he got bookoodles of pecans from them every year. He then had the arduous task of cracking the pecans. Now, I'm not sure where he got the idea...he may have seen one like it somewhere....but, out of necessity Mr. Clifford got busy and made himself a pecan cracker. It's a vice-like apparatus with a lever that results in a perfect cracked pecan. They almost come out of the shell whole.

Mr. Clifford passed away a few years ago and his pecan cracker has become a family treasure.
Cliff's mama let me borrow it, today.

My Sunday afternoon project.....pecan crackin'.

Oh Happy Day!
