Blood Work Results Are In

My doctor's appointment is not until Friday, but I got the report from my blood work in the mail a few days ago.

This process back to health has been a good experience. I have learned so much in the last few months. I am getting results that I haven't been able to attain before. My diet, as most of you know, has made all the difference in the world. I have been vegetarian before, but never got the results I have now that I've gone vegan. For me, eliminating dairy, eggs, oils and sugar was the key.  I am 100% vegan now and I don't eat any overt fats or take in any added sugar.....nothing more than what comes naturally in fruits and vegetables.  And contrary to many beliefs, plant-based foods have plenty of needed protein, calcium and good fats. I get everything I need except Vitamin B-12, which is a concern for most vegans....so, I take a supplement. I also take Vitamin D, but honestly I am outside so much that I probably get more than enough from the sun.

I still have a little work to do. My doctor's comments on the latest lab report was to continue diet and exercise and repeat in 3 months. I'm confident I will be completely in the normal range by the time I have those labs done.  My diet and lifestyle have changed for the better and I will continue this way for the rest of my life, so there's no reason to believe otherwise. The results below will show the before and after. 

The results.......

Since March 1, 2017:  I have lost 22-23 lbs. and am still losing.....ever so slowly.

Well, that's it in a nutshell. Much improved and feeling great, I'll continue doing what I've been doing. It's working!

I'll update you in 3 months to let you know the results then. In the meantime, hope everyone is having a good spring. It is super busy around here. My garden is doing so good. I picked squash, cucumbers and green beans last week. There are a few tomatoes on the bushes...small and green and plenty of blossoms. I have two new additions to my kitchen repertoire....an Instant Pot (pressure cooker, etc.) and a pressure canner. Love the Instant Pot and I can't wait to use the canner. I'm gonna have so much fun!

  1. That is wonderful to hear your health is improving. Diet really does make a big difference, the hardest part is making the changes ;-) I did the Whole 30 for a month and had great results but it was hard to keep up with as it was pretty restricting but I liked the way I felt so may try to get back to eliminating some things.     1. Thank you, Jill! Yes, the diet is key. Going vegan has been very easy for me. It blows people's minds to hear that I eat a high-carb diet. I'm speaking of complex carbs, of course, which includes potatoes and rice and whole grains in addition to fruits and vegetables. It's been ingrained in us that carbs are bad for those of us with a sugar problem. But what we've learned is that it's not the carbs after all that has caused the problem....it's fats. So it's the bad fats...animal fats, saturated fats and even oils that I've concentrated on eliminating and it works. I love what I eat and I don't feel deprived. If you want to feel energetic and lose a few pounds, while improving health I would encourage you to try the way I eat for 3 weeks. I know those three things I mentioned would be accomplished.   5. Good Job! You look great! Your skin is glowing too. You just WOW'd me with your results. Vegan may just be what you need. Keep up the good work. Slow weight loss is a good thing. My last blood work came back perfect except vitamin D. It was extremely low and I have to take one every day now.

    1. Thanks, Lisa! My skin does look better, clearer and brighter somehow, I think. Congrats on your good numbers, too! I'm surprised about your Vit D, though. Aren't you outside a lot? If I run across anything in my reading about Vit D, I'll send it to you. The body is certainly complicated, although wonderfully made. It's amazing how just one little thing out of kilter can throw off so much more. I'm sure your Vit D levels will be back to normal soon, if not already. You strike me as a go get 'em kind of woman! 😀

    2. Im not outside a lot unless im at the beach. I work in a little office all day and get about an hour of sunlight on my afternoon walks. I go to the tan bed too and they say that helps. I got the V-D back to normal now but have to keep them in me. Event thought about one of those vitamin D lights.

  7. You're looking great, Laurie! And congratulations on being able to stick with your new lifestyle. I know how difficult it is to give up eating some of the delicious but unhealthy food that we've been brought up with. There are some things that I'm not sure I can do without -- bacon comes to mind... You are a great roll model for all if us. Thanks for keeping us posted as to your progress.

    1. Ahhhh, thank you so much, Jim. True, us southerners were raised on some delicious foods. Oddly enough, though, I haven't had a problem giving those foods up. I still eat those wonderful vegetables we love. Okra, tomatoes, corn, cucumbers, beans of all kinds, and I could go on and on.
