Hey y'all! Hope everyone is having a nice spring day. It's gorgeous, here, in South Carolina. Mid 80's, no humidity and plenty of sunshine. I've been outside, today, planting flowers and poofing some things.
Cliff and Sawyer built my potting bench Saturday. Holler! Cliff built it from boards that he salvaged from an old dock that we found submerged in the lake, in front of our property. Originally, I wanted to use the boards to make a table for an outdoor kitchen area, but there's construction going on in that area right now (Cliff is having a shop/garage built). So, we decided that the old dock would make a great potting bench instead.
I took a lot of pictures.....so, I'm just gonna let you go ahead and take a look around the garden and yard.
I love that Cliff is teaching Sawyer to use power tools....he sure won't let me use them. LOL!!
He's almost finished. I was so excited!
And here it is....my potting bench! It looks a little bare right now, but I'm not finished with it yet. Cliff is going to put the cleats back on that once held ropes to tie up boats and I have some cute little hooks to hang on it, too.
I'm, also, thinking about putting a chair and umbrella there to the right of the potting bench. You know, so a girl can relax in the shade for a few minutes after doing all that gardening.

The shelf is the perfect place to store things up out of the way of my work area.
See that metal colander hanging there on the right. It's one of my new finds. I have a smaller one just like it that I use in the house, but I'll use this one to gather my vegetables.
There was a lot of planting going on here this morning.
I have a new friend...do you see her? She's Glory the goat.
Oh, and I also have chickens in my garden. This is Marvin and Matilda. It would be nice if they would help fertilize. Ha!
Around the yard, the Day Lilies are starting to bloom.
The hanging basket is up for Mama Bird to enjoy, when she comes home.
I'm planting these Dianthus tomorrow in the side flower bed.
I absolutely love purple flowers!
Speaking of loving some flowers.....Glory gives new meaning to stopping and smelling the roses or in this case, Zinnias.
The garden is doing great! Lettuce and carrots. I've already picked the lettuce, twice.
The Lone Ranger....the only sugar snap pea that came up. I need to go back to the drawing board with these. I think I should have planted them earlier.
Or maybe I should have just hooped the sugar snap peas in the compost bin. Everything comes up in there....with reckless and wild abandon. These are pumpkin seeds. I'm letting them do their thang.
Oh law! There are those chickens again.
Happy day! Talk soon!

Hi Laurie....
ReplyDeleteThat potting bench is a dream! How fantastic...not to mention having a few good men with power tools!
Your gardens look great...we are really struggling up here this Spring....rain and cool temps 🙁
Love the Zinnias...and your pot hanging by the birdhouse.
Dianthus are one of my fav perennials...I have white at the cottage.
I noticed a bag of Epson salts on your work station...pray tell what you use that for?
Love the chickens and the goat...a real farm!
Enjoy your evening...
Cheers!
Linda :o)
Thanks to all, Linda! I'm having so much fun with the flowers and garden. Hope your spring finally gets straightened out so you can enjoy yours, too. You have a good eye...I use Epsom Salts as a natural fertilizer. It contains magnesium, which prevents blossom end rot on tomatoes and makes the veggies green up nicely. It also helps with production of the veggies and flowers, too. When I plant something in a planter, I mix in a teaspoon or so to the soil. For the vegetables I mix about a tablespoon to a gallon of water and water the plants.
ReplyDeleteLove this Laurie....thanks for the tip!
DeleteLaurie, everything is looking great!!! I love the new potting bench so much, no doubt you are over the moon about it! And your new farm friends are adorable!! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Debbie! I am so looking forward to putting that potting bench to good use. It might be a little rough around the edges, but I love it...especially because Cliff and Sawyer made it.
DeleteLucky you! That potting bench is perfect! Great job, Cliff. Everything is looking so good! And, I LOVE Marvin and Matilda! Ha! blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteThanks. Tanna! I just love my bench. And I could not live without Marvin and Matilda! Lol!!
DeleteThat bench is the best kind of gift..home made..charming..your 2 guys working on it..everytime you looked over..your heart just filled up with joy.
ReplyDeleteI know these things:)
It's beautiful and I love you accoutrements!!
Isn't it, though? The two men in my life got extra brownie points for building it for me. I'm feeling the love. Lol!
DeleteOur garden goes in the end of the month. I'm looking forward to it! Your bench looks great...Cliff did a wonderful job!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Betsy! He did a great job...he's my little carpenter and is teaching Sawyer the ropes. Lol! I am looking forward to your garden, too. Can't wait to see pictures of it. I picked one of the carrots this morning while harvesting the lettuce. It was so cute! All one inch of it. I rinsed the dirt off and ate it right there in the garden. HaHa!
DeleteYour potting bench is so nice! How neat to be able to build it out of recycled materials. I love your chickens too and your yard looks so neat. My favorite color flower is pink! Nancy
ReplyDeleteThank you, Nancy.
DeleteAll looks great! Cliff and Sawyer did a great job! Loved that you named the chickens and the cow. Enjoy the nice weather!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sara! Naming the animals is so whimsical and fun.
DeleteOh I like your new potting bench, and I think a chair and umbrella would be swell! For a min. I thought your little goat was eating your flowers! I like purple flowers too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Janey! I'm on the hunt for the perfect chair. I've decided I want one of those 50's style metal lawn chairs. You know the one? I almost stopped at this old farmhouse down the road from us and asked if they would be interested in selling me theirs. Lol! I might have to resort to that.
DeleteSimply lovely. Potting bench and all!
ReplyDeleteYour hubby's patience and willingness to teach Sawyer is something Sawyer will remember all his life. Plus it will build a wonderful relationship for them both.
Thanks Mama Pea! I have no doubt Sawyer will always remember this experience. He has a great Papi.....very willing to teach Saw everything he knows.
DeleteOh, wow! That potting bench is wonderful.

DeleteHow nice! Your a lucky gal.
ReplyDeleteAnd the reason men dont let women use power tools? We'd build a house!
Lisa
Lol! Yeah!!!
DeleteLove the potting bench! I'm hoping to get our garden in this coming weekend. A bit later than those down south! After snow last year this time in May I decided to wait a bit longer before planting. Love all your garden animal pals!
