Memorial Day Weekend

Hey y'all. How was your weekend?

We didn't do a whole lot, this weekend. Just hung out at the lake and enjoyed the beautiful day, Saturday. Cliff took L&S on a kayak picnic. I have been working in the yard so much, that I took the day to do some cooking. Someone sent Cliff home from work with a bag full of fresh squash and my neighbor, Doris, gave me a bunch of blueberries. I had bought the ingredients to make home-made bread a couple of weeks ago. So, this was my day to whip up something delicious. I made a squash casserole, a blueberry crisp, and home-made bread. The bread recipe was easy and turned out deliciously. It was just a little time consuming, though. After it had risen, I kneaded the dough for like 10 minutes. I thought, "this is a good way to build up some biceps, triceps, and pectoral muscles." Getting a workout in, while making bread.....score!  No wonder our pioneers were strong and strapping women. I'm going to do that again.

Sunday, we woke up to rain. I didn't mind, it cooled us off and it was needed. We decided that a rainy day was a good day to take L&S to a movie. So Sunday afternoon, we took them to see Jungle Book. They enjoyed it. It was a cute movie and the message of love of family, loyalty and friendship was a great one. Even so, Cliff and I just about fell asleep during parts of it.

Monday, Memorial Day, the lake was busy with a plethora of boating activities. We were invited to our friends, across the lake, for a BBQ. Cliff and the children paddled their kayaks across. I just drove. Ha! Later, after Emily came to pick the children up, Cliff and I kayaked for a little while. Most of the boats had left, just a few fishers remained. It was quiet, relaxing and peaceful.

Well, I've got to get cranking. I have a whole lot of work to do in the yard. I'm still working on the flagstone path around the garden. Hope to finish it up this week.

Hope your weekend was equally as relaxing and peaceful.

  2. It was a fast and furious weekend but we did manage to enjoy our kids and Grandkiddos a bit. Gearing up for my Granddaughter's graduation party at our home end of June...much work to be done around the yard!

  3. What a nice weekend you had! So great for you to have the grandkids (and I know a joy for them, too!) for the special weekend and really nice for your daughter and her husband to have a special weekend by themselves! Good all the way around!

We had a good weekend, too. We met the "new man" in our daughter's life for the first time when he visited here.

    1. Yes, it was very nice! Oooooh, the "new man". How exciting! I'm not sure how old your daughter is and whether she would tolerate it or not, but I questioned my girl's beaus up one side and down the other. They passed the test. HaHa!

  7. I am thinking you enjoy the lake on non holidays? When it is more peaceful? I'll bet your arms are strong not only from kneading bread, but also from kayaking! That blueberry crisp sounds delicious.

    1. Yes, we are fortunate to be able to enjoy the lake on non holidays and weekdays. Weekends tend to be busy, too. My arms are strong, but not from kayaking. I've only been a couple of times since the weather has gotten so warm....Hot really. Anyway, my arms are strong from digging out sod, hauling sand, flagstones and heavy wheelbarrows. Lol!! I hope to finish up this project in the morning. I'll make a post about it when finished. Have a great summer!

  8. I can imagine that there are not too many boring moments living at the lake. Sounds like you had a really nice holiday weekend. We pretty much stuck around home too. Glenn actually went in to work on Memorial Day morning from 4-11 or so. His retirement job is working him silly! Early release this week, so I have been picking up the girls and bringing them here until their mothers get off from work. Needless,, to say I have not had much time for anything else.

    1. You're right, Lynn....there's rarely a dull moment around here. If there are no outdoor activities going on, I have a very imaginative husband. I totally understand about the time the grands fill. But, we wouldn't have it any other way, would we?
