Fake Bird Dilemma

Looks kinda creepy, doesn't it? This could be the reason I haven't had the first visitor, since hanging the feeder beside the fake bluebird. I took this photo last week, before filling the feeder to the rim with birdseed. I thought it was cute, apparently the birds didn't think so. I asked a fellow bird lover, Betsy, about it and she agrees with what I kinda thought......I may be scaring the bejeebies out of them. Ha!  I'm going to take down the fake one to see what happens, before the word gets out that it's too creepy to come around here.

Let you know,
Laurie

  2. That sure looks cute! I've heard of fake owls outside to keep the squirrels away also keeping the birds away from feeders. I'd just move that cute bird and his swing to another tree away from the seed....it's so cute!

    1. I should have known because I have a neighbor at the beach with an owl in her tree for the same purpose. Gah! I'm going to move the bird. :)

  3. You don't want to scare the birdies.

    1. Haha! I sure don't....I want more to come. I guess they don't care for a little tree decoration.

  4. LOL- That reminds me- we used to put owls out on our dock to "scare off" the sea gulls. We would look down and the sea gulls would be using the owls as a perch. lol Kind of worked in reverse here, I guess. xo Diana

  5. Yep, move the fake birdie! Bluebirds are especially territorial and will fight any bird that comes within 50 feet or so around their nesting area. So the other birds are just avoiding the confrontation. You'll probably have to move it across the yard... 10 feet will not help much.

    2. Thanks, Don! I love taking pictures....I just have a lot to learn. And yes, I think I need to move the fake birdie. Wouldn't it be funny if a real bluebird tried fighting the fake one.? HaHa!

  6. Beautiful picture! I think that looks kinda cute hanging there, but maybe you will have more visitors without him. I have an issue with my cats laying under the feeders, they really keep the birds away!

    1. Hey Cindy, where have you been? Lol! But yep, I think you're right, too. The fake bird has to go. Your cats are smart. Just laying there, waiting on dinner.

  7. Looks to me like the fake bluebird just cleaned out the feeder and is patiently waiting for you to refill it! ;o) It is a beautifully composed picture though. I agree Mr. Bluebird needs to go elsewhere.

  8. Ha-ha! They probably think they've got competition. Looks like he is guarding the feeder and won't let anyone near it. Hope you get some visitors after his removal. ;)

  9. That's so funny! But I know my birds and I am sure they don't like that fake bird there!!
We put some cheaper bird seed in our feeder and our birds are looking in at us and it looks as if they are saying, "HEY, where are our sunflower seeds???!!!" HA! They are smart!!
