A Little Spring Looky Looky

Not much going on down LaLa Lane this week. My daughter's wedding is a couple of weeks away. All the plans are in place. The small details have been or are being addressed. I am feeling confident that things are ready. I may shoot out a post next week with a few more details. However, I've been reveling in the calm this week.

The weather has been nice. Upper 60's and lower 70's all week with some rain. But not enough to keep me from enjoy a stroll around the yard. I took the camera and shot a few pictures of things happening in my neck of the woods. Literally!

Carolina Jasmine.....South Carolina's State Flower

Pines bursting forth....yellow pollen is covering everything.

Dogwoods starting to bloom.

Gambler still stalled, but healing just fine. He's chewing on a little hay snack.

Spooky, our Great Dane...she has one blue eye and one brown eye. She likes to lay in my flower beds on the pine straw.

I finally captured a decent photo of a Cardinal. He was checking out the surroundings so that his little honey could come and dine.

Unfortunately, this little nuisance has found the bird feed, also. So, I'm going to have to get creative to keep him out.

And, lastly....this creature from the devil himself also loves to lay in the pine straw. I saw him yesterday as I was backing out of my garage. Good thing I was in the car with the windows rolled up because if I had walked out and saw him.....911 would have been necessary.
I can't stand them! They scare the bejeebies clean out of me! Mama swears by moth balls. Cliff doesn't think anything works to keep snakes away, but I'm not above trying any and everything I've heard of to keep these horrifying, make-me-hurt-myself, slithering creatures away from my house.
It gives me the shivers just to post the picture!

Wrapping it up, I cleaned out my raised garden beds. Hopefully, this year I'm going to make my garden pretty as well as functional. I've got plans you no nothing about! You might want to stay tuned.

Happy Spring Y'all,
Laurie

P.S. There may be an adventure happening this weekend. You might want to stay tuned for that, too.

    1. The yellow flower is more of a vine. You can see it dotted throughout the woods here. It's also called a yellow jessamine.

  5. Glad Gambler is healing well. OH MY GOODNESS! Well, I'd be trying the moth ball trick. I'm with you the 911 call would have been in order! Ha! Spooky's eyes are gorgeous. =) blessings ~ tanna

    1. I'll definetely be trying the moth ball trick. We do live in the country, so I guess snakes are to be expected. We don't have a mice problem, but we have frogs, lizards and something I just learned is that snakes eat cockroaches. SC has many. So I guess the battle continues. Ugh! Spooky does have pretty eyes, doesn't she?

  6. Lovely pictures all . . . except for that last one! I feel the same way you do about those things that shall remain nameless! I'm a fairly new reader so didn't know you have a Great Dane. They have always appealed to me, but hear they have a short life span which discourages me from actually getting one. Do you know that to be true?

Good news about Gambler. Hope he gets out of "jail" soon! And to be so organized weeks before your daughter's wedding . . . how wonderful! Best wishes that it all goes very, very smoothly all through the big day!

  7. Thanks Mama Pea. I hope things go smoothly at the wedding, too. So far, so good. Yes, I've heard Great Danes have a shorter life span. Spooky is 8 yrs old and has been fine, but my daughter and her husband had to put theirs down when he was only 5 or 6. They tend to have stomach issues. My daughter's dog, Morgan's, stomach flipped and the vet didn't think he would survive surgery. He was a gentle giant and we felt like we lost a human family member, when he was gone. They are wonderful, loving, gentle, loyal dogs, if you can wrap your head around the fact that they don't typically live as long as other dogs. Let me know if you get one.

  10. FREAKING BLACK SNAKES!!! We lived in Missouri and I miss the Cardinals, but not those crazy black snakes. Sorry it was there, but the other beauty you are surrounded by is outstanding! Glad the horse is healing, my friend - and LOVE Spooky...we have always been surrounded by Danes (my SIL's dogs) - such great animals! Happy Tuesday, Laurie - hope the wedding plans continue to go forward, without a hitch! XOXO

    1. Thanks Tanya! We were just in your old stomping grounds. Went on a couple of trail runs and one had a rattle snake caution sign up. Needless to say, I was on high alert, but my daughter assured me there was too many people and dogs around to worry about seeing one. I didn't! Thank goodness!

  11. Your photos are gorgeous! I am so glad your horse is healing well. I have a love/hate relationship with snakes. I find them fascinating and repulsive all at once. However, I am glad we live in an area where we do not see them often. (When we lived in Oklahoma, my aunt - who is TERRIFIED of snakes - had one nest under her kitchen sink. Gives me shivers to think about it...)

  12. HI Laurie My but you seem so calm in the face of the upcoming wedding. I can't wait to see your shared pictures of that. Spring is bursting forth here as well along with the cold and rain and sleet and some late snow flurries just for Mother Nature to make sure we know who is still boss. Your pictures are pretty...except for the SNAKE....I would be peeing in my pants even sitting in the car with the window rolled up. The snakes around here live in the scabby areas along the river and in the fields far away ha

    1. HaHa! You may be worse than me. I don't wet my pants, I just have heart palpitations and, AND they make me want to cuss.
