I'm slightly exhausted. I've been painting all week at the lake house. I took a break yesterday to go buy more paint and pick up Lidia and Sawyer, after school. They are spending the weekend with me here at the lake. Sawyer got sick last night with a stomach virus. Bless it. Throwing up in LaLa and Papi's bed made him feel even worse. He was feeling better today, even though he had a fever this afternoon. And he apologized for keeping me up last night. I couldn't help but kiss his head multiple times, so hope I don't get it.....ain't nobody got time for that.
As bad as he felt, he and Lidia made a snack for me because I had been working so hard and all. They are sweet like that.
We don't let them use knives, especially when not supervised. So, Lidia said she used a butter knife to cut up the fruit. Bless her heart, she worked hard. And it was quite delicious, too.
Yeah, so....painting is for the birds. I'm not good at it. I get impatient and start making mistakes or dripping paint on stuff. So far, I've painted the den and foyer, but changed colors because the first one ended up being too gray. I was going for a light tan. I have the worst time trying to choose colors. Hopefully, this new color will be the one.
While I was at it, I decided to try a stripe on the laundry room walls. Well, actually the laundry room is a laundry closet and it was quite hard to paint without taking the washer and dryer out, but I did. Once again, thank heavens for yoga.

Trimming.
Basecoat, done.
I saw something similar on Pinterest and wanted to try it.
It was quite time consuming,
But, I'm quite satisfied with the results.....
We still need to install a shelf, maybe a piece of artwork or a basket or something. Not much room for more. I do realize that showing y'all painted walls is like Boring with a capital B, but I just thought it was too cute.
Laurie
LOVE the stripes, Laurie It really makes the room look bigger, I think.
ReplyDeleteSorry the little guy was sick. Poor boy. I sure hope you don't get it but won't be too surprised if you do. Those little ones are like walking petri dishes, aren't they? lol
Hope you have a good night- Happy painting. xo Diana
Thanks Diana, I think it makes the room look bigger, too. Petri dishes? Yes! And, I declare...I believe Sawyer catches every stomach virus that comes around. I usually don't catch things from them, but this one was up close and personal. Lol! So, I'm bracing for it.
DeleteNo, no, no! Not boring at all. And I LOVE those stripes! Absolutely perfect for that area.
ReplyDeleteWhat with your little "sickie" in residence, it's a darn good thing you hadn't unhooked and pulled the washer and dryer out!!! Hope everyone is feeling much better today.
Thank you for your nice comment... And oh my goodness, you got that right. Sheets and throws and jammies, washed three times just to make sure. LOL! So far, so good, today.
DeleteLOVE your striped wall paint job, Laurie!! Looks GREAT!! That is going to make you smile every time you have to do laundry. Worth every bit of effort! ;) Well done. blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteps I hope you miss the bug, too!
Thanks, Tanna. I open the doors and turn on the light now, just to admire it. HaHa! I'm so scared of doing things like this for fear of making a huge mistake that I shy away from such projects. I am quite proud of myself for not letting the fear win.
DeleteThose stripes look amazing. Nice job.
ReplyDeleteThank you, AJH! Have a great day. Hope you spend some of it on your bike.
DeleteI love seeing how people decorate their homes..and I love the stripes! So fun! I also have trouble picking colors. I was going to paint my living room a light gray. After it was done it looked blue! I was too tired to redo it so for a bit I'm keeping it blue! I got the stomach flu from my Grandkids a few weeks ago...not fun! Stay well!
ReplyDeleteThanks YaYa, I love color....but I usually gravitate towards tans and beiges just because I am scared if I use any other color it will be a mistake. I got brave and painted my kitchen a sea blue. I love it, but it limits you to what other colors you can use in there. Maybe one day, I'll get it right. So far, I'm clear of the stomach virus. Fingers crossed!
DeleteOh Laurie you did a great job with the paint stripes. It looks great. I have been itching to paint the living room but it is large and John says we have to worry about other things first and he is right sighing It is a necessary evil but when done it is so nice
ReplyDeleteThank you, CatieAn! It seems that when you start one project it leads to many others. We bought the lake house last July and I'm just now getting around to painting. We had many other things that needed to be done first. It sure is making big difference.....so I am glad to finally conquer it.
DeleteYou SHOULD be proud of those stripes! BRAVO! I actually love to paint, and am looking forward to my own project, though it will be just straight painting walls! How sweet of those grandkids, sick and all, to think of you working so hard. I love that she used a butter knife, ingenious thing! Happy Tuesday, Laurie -
ReplyDeleteThank you, Tanya! I don't particularly like painting. But it's a means to an end, right? So, I tolerate it and hope I don't make a mess in the meantime. Yes, I have 2 SWEET grandchildren. They are so considerate and have tons of compassion....just like their mama. Happy Tuesday to you, too!
DeleteThose stripes look great, Laurie!! I could never do that - I am way too impatient, i"m not accurate which drives my husband crazy and then we fight... okay, we had that when we moved into our new house and I was panting almost every room there - except for my daughter's (she did it herself) and my husband's office (he just left it the way it was). I loved choosing the colors and our home is quite colorful by now - with an orange entryway which "glows" when it's dark and we have the illuminated bear on that stands at the entrance window. It looks warm and cozy. But - everything is solid color, no stripes like you did, and no fancy technique either. I really like the stripes, and I think you did a fantastic job.
ReplyDeleteHi Laurie, Love your stripes painted wall. What a great job you did. Simply beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLove the little snack our grand made. So sweet. Hope everyone with the flu is well soon.
Thanks for stopping by while I was away.
Hugs, CM
The stripes in the laundry closet turned out darling! (Ironically, I sat down to read through a few blog posts with my coffee before painting our guest bathroom. I need to get a move on if I plan to surprise my husband by having it done when he gets home!) From the photos, you would never guess the washer and dryer were not moved before painting. Such a lovely job.
ReplyDeleteI do hope Sawyer recovered quickly!
Thanks Renee! Yes, if you plan to do something like stripes in your bathroom, you better get started. It took me the better part of a day to do the stripes. After painting the base color and letting it dry, I had to measure and tape...that took the most time. The blue went on quickly. I also used a very small roller. I think it was only 6 inches long. That help to get behind the washer and dryer. Post pics of your bathroom, after you finish. I would love to see it. And although Sawyer missed school on Monday, he is better now. Thank you!
