I am a sort if ex runner trying to lose wright to start again, I got up to a half distance a few years ago but then various injuries and life stuff sort if happened and before I knew it I'd gained loads if wright, now running us WAY harder and I feel quite self conscious too. I have entered a half in April next year but have been sticking my head in the sand. Current excuse is I'm under the weather with a terrible cough and cold. MUST start again soon. Gels are the custom...Hi Sara....Yes it feels great! Gels are the customary fuel for runners around here, so I started using them from the beginning and still do. I find that they work very well. Some have a little bit of caffeine to give you a little extra boost too. I didn't follow the Hanson's training this time and I stopped early at the last half training because of a recurring ankle injury. The Hanson's method requires running a lot of miles per week and I guess the increase in mileage aggravated my ankle problem, so I cut back on the miles. However, I believe it is a great method. I may post about it soon. And I do intend to follow it for training for my next half, possibly in March. I have to say, I never felt stronger as a runner than when I was using the Hanson's Method. I have never tried a gel, but I always carry gummy bears and other kinds of soft candy during my long runs and it works. Also, it's the only time I don't feel bad about eating that kind of stuff ;)<br />Are you still doing the Hansons training? You could write a post about that.
